FROM STAFF REPORTS

PONTOTOC — Authorities have captured a fugitive Oct. 8 who was on the loose after a nine-hour manhunt in Brady, Mason and Llano counties, according to the Llano County Sheriff’s Office.

McCulloch County authorities sent out an alert just before noon that morning for Justin Friar, 25, of Brady, who was wanted on drug and burglary warrants and possibly driving a gray BMW that was headed to Llano.

Authorities notified residents with robo-calls as they launched a multiple-agency search on roadways and in cabins, barns, deer blinds and pastures.

By mid-afternoon, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers in Llano County spotted a BMW stopped on CR 405, two miles from Texas 71.

Investigators say Friar left the vehicle on foot, and a female occupant drove away from the scene.

Soon after, Jasmin Jonelle Perez of Voca was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop.

Just before 9 p.m., authorities stopped Friar, who was a passenger in a red pickup truck, in Pontotoc in northeastern Mason County.

The occupants of the pickup, from Brady and Voca, were released at the scene, according to the report.

Friar’s warrant charges are burglary of a building and possession of marijuana. He was transported to McCullough County Jail on Oct. 9.
